Itinerary
2007
In 2007 we will be
conducting our fifth trip to the Ukraine. And with God’s
help, it too will become a success.
We are proposing to
take 20 students and Christian business people this year.
Before departing, the Harding students will undertake a series
of studies preparing them to be active facilitators in the
seminar and to understand the objective of ministry in their
trip. In addition, each will be subjected to a review that
insures they are qualified to take the trip.
We will depart
Little Rock, Arkansas on March the 7th about 1:30 in
the afternoon. Our US Airways flight will take us to
Charlotte, North Carolina. We will catch a Lufthansa
flight at about 7:30 that evening for Munich, Germany. We
will arrive in Munich about 10:00 in the morning of March the 8th.
From there we will fly on to Kiev, Ukraine, arriving on a
Lufthansa flight about 4:30 in the late afternoon.
We will be in Kiev,
the capitol of the Ukraine for the next two days. We will
be visiting numerous local sites of interest. Christians
from the Church of Christ in Kiev will be hosting us for this
visit. Our travels will continue on the evening of March 9th
when we take a train to Donetsk. We will be departing
sometime late evening and arriving early morning in Donetsk.
We will be met at
the train station by members of the Eastern European Missions
team in Donetsk. They will conduct us to our housing at a local
sanatorium (where we have stayed since beginning these trips).
Once checked into our rooms and cleaned up a bit, we will head
off to church. After church we will partake of a Ukrainian
lunch prepared by ladies at church. The team will be on
their own for the afternoon, under the guidance of students from
the Institute who are members of the church at which we will
worship.
The seminar will
begin on Monday morning at 9:00. The Harding team will
share in a common breakfast at the sanatorium prior to departing
for the Institute. We will meet initially in the office of
Igor Kovlowsky (his office will serve as our “rest stop” for the
remainder of the week while conducting the seminar. The
morning sessions will focus upon the “Importance of Personal
Character in Business.” An afternoon series of
seminars—offered only to graduates of the character seminar—on
how to build a business plan, will be conducted each afternoon
from 2:00—4:00. Some of the Harding students will want to
participate in these seminars, some will want to visit with
students from the Institute who are in the morning seminar.
On Friday, March 16th,
the Harding team will be traveling to Slavianogorsk to visit the
monastery there. This is a national shrine in Ukraine.
We will stay at a sanatorium on Friday night, visiting the
monastery on Saturday morning and returning to Donetsk in the
afternoon. We will all be doing our final packing this
evening!
Sunday morning,
March 17th, we will check out of the sanatorium prior
to going to worship. After worship we will share a meal
and then head directly to the airport for our departure.
We will be leaving about 4:00pm for Munich, arriving about 6:15
on a Lufthansa flight.
We will be met by a
former student of Harding—Timor Kerner—for travel via the subway
to downtown Munich. We will be staying in a hostel in the
immediate downtown area. After checking into our rooms we
will walk a couple of blocks to the “clock tower” in downtown
Munich. We will have dinner in a nearby restaurant and
walk around the downtown area a bit, being led by Timor.
In the morning we will take the subway back to the airport.
Our
departure is at 1:00pm on a Lufthansa flight back to Charlotte,
arriving about 6:15pm. We will continue on to Little Rock,
departing on a U.S. Airways flight about 10:00pm arriving
about 11:00. After an hour’s drive we will be back in
Searcy! And! In our classes the next morning!!
